A 14-year-old pointed the 16-year-old out to Evanston police officers at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 1900 block of Dempster Street, saying the older boy took his skateboard the day before near Mason Park, near the corner of Florence Avenue and Church Street, police said.
Police approached the older boy, “who immediately began to fight with officers attempting to make inquiry about the theft. The subject had struck two separate officers and physically resisted efforts by police to be placed in custody,” according to a police news release.
After one officer used a Taser, the boy was put into handcuffs without further incident, the release said.
The juvenile was charged with theft, two counts of aggravated battery to police and resisting arrest after he was examined at a local hospital. He was taken to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center.
A police officer was also taken to a local hospital for an examination after he was hit in the head, but officials said he was released without serious injury.
