“Promises, Promises,” the 1968 musical with a book by Neil Simon and a score by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, will be part of the 2012 season at the Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace, a spokesman for the theater said Monday.
The retro-chic title was revived on Broadway in 2010 and Drury Lane will be using that revised version, which features additional Bacharach songs. It will be directed in Sept. 2012 by Rachel Rockwell.
The new season (Drury Lane operates on an usual calendar, starting its seasons in the spring) begins in April with a new production of “Hairspray,” directed and choreographed by Tammy Mader. In July, David New will direct “The 39 Steps,” the comedy thriller loosely adapted from the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock movie. Following “Promises, Promises,” Bill Jenkins will direct “Singing in the Rain” in Nov. 2012. The season ends in Jan. 2013 with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Boulevard,” under the direction of William Osetek.
