The Chicago-based director Dexter Bullard will make his Broadway debut in the fall, directing Michael Shannon, Paul Rudd, Ed Asner and Kate Arrington in a revised version of “Grace” by Craig Wright.
“Grace,” a play about a young couple who want to open a chain of Gospel motels in Florida, was seen in 2006 at the Northlight Theatre, also with Shannon, an ensemble member at A Red Orchid Theatre who is now a series regular on the HBO series “Broadwalk Empire.” This will be Shannon's Broadway debut, although he is hardly a stranger to the stage.
The Chicago connections in this show are many: the lead producer is Debbie Bisno, long associated with the Chicago theater company known as Roadworks Productions. Opening night is set for Oct. 4, at a Shubert-owned theater yet to be announced.
