Court Theatre and American Blues Theater, both Chicago non-profit theater companies, announced Monday that they are jointly developing a new dramatic version of the Richard Wright novel "Native Son," as adapted for the stage by the actress-playwright Nambi E. Kelley.
"Native Son," the sad story of a improverished young African-American named Bigger Thomas, is one of the most important books ever written about Chicago. It first was published in 1940.
The new version is set to premiere at Court in the fall of 2014.
