Chicago Police are warning Red Line riders to be on the lookout for a man who rode the “L” next to a 16-year-old girl from Rogers Park to the Loop Monday morning, then “grabbed her in an inappropriate manner,” police said in a release today.

The girl got on a Red Line train at the Jarvis stop about 7:15 a.m. Monday, headed to school downtown, according to the alert from Area Central detectives.

A man sat down next to her, and when the girl tried to leave the train at the Jackson & State stop, the man grabbed her, police said. The girl told the man to stop, calling attention to what he was doing and so alerting several other passengers.

The girl was able to leave the train, while the man stayed on, police said.

When the girl got to school, she called police about the incident. Detectives are investigating it as a case of criminal sexual abuse.

The man was described as black, about 35 years old, standing about 5-foot-8 and weighing about 160 pounds. He was clean-shaven, and when last seen was wearing an oversized black jacket, a hood with a fake fur collar and black jeans.

Anyone with information on the man is asked to call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
