Matthew Green, 56, is suspected of robbing at least two other people.
Green was arrested about 5 a.m. Sunday with a razor blade at the Red Line’s Grand Avenue station, 521 N. State St., soon after he was seen on a surveillance camera cutting the pocket of the passenger, police said. He then was seen using the victim’s bank card to buy CTA transfer cards.
Plainclothes officers assigned to a special CTA robbery team confronted him, and Green dropped seven CTA transfer cards on the ground, police said.
During a search, officers found 11 additional transfer cards, the victim's bank card and an iPhone belonging to someone else, police said. He also had items belonging to what is believed to be a third victim, police said.
Just before his arrest, Green had been with three other people but no one else was taken into custody.
Green, of the 1200 block of West 76th Street in the Gresham neighborhood, was charged with three counts of theft and three counts of using a forged credit or debit card, police said. All charges are felonies.
