Ten people were shot overnight across the city, one of them fatally.
Among the surviving wounded is a retired Chicago police sergeant who was wounded in a home invasion about 11:45 p.m. in his East Side home. He's in serious-to-critical condition, police said.
A 36-year-old man died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after he was shot on the South Side. He was wounded in the 2300 block of East 75th Street and taken in critical-to-grave condition to Christ hospital, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Chief Juan Hernandez. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg about 6:59 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Ana Pacheco.
The victim was standing inside a convenience store when someone entered and shot him multiple times, then fled, said News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti. A description of the shooter was not available.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the man as Chad Collins, 36, of the 14800 block of South Maplewood Avenue in Harvey. He was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center at 8:04 p.m.
Collins died from multiple gunshot wounds, with gunshot wounds suffered in an earlier shooting a contributing factor, the Cook County medical examiner's office determined following an autopsy Tuesday. Collins' death was ruled a homicide.
Someone shot a 20-year-old man in the leg about 3:10 a.m. in the 2100 block of West Cullerton Street in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and is expected to survive.
About 1:05 a.m., two men in a car were shot in the 1900 block of North Rockwell Avenue and drove to the Shakespeare District Police Station in the 2100 block of North California Avenue less than a mile away. A 19-year-old man is in critical condition with a head wound and a 23-year-old is in stable condition with wounds to his arms and legs. The two were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said.
Another person, 26, was shot at the corner of North and Kedzie avenues in the Logan Square neighborhood. He was grazed about 12:45 a.m. and walked into Norwegian American Hospital.
About 10 p.m. a 35-year-old man was shot in the leg in the Gage Park neighborhood. The man went to that location to confront the mother of his child's new boyfriend, who shot him. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
A 16-year-old boy was shot and wounded in the 9100 block of South Lowe Avenue in the Brainerd neighborhood about 7:13 p.m. and was taken to Christ Medical Center in serious-to-critical condition, Hernandez said.
About 7:40 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the back in the 8200 block of South Vernon Avenue in the Chatham neighborhood, Pacheco said. The man was in taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition had stabilized, Hernandez said. He was in serious condition, Pacheco said.
In the Albany Park neighborhood about 8:03 p.m., a 17-year-old girl was shot in the right leg in the 4900 block of North Lawndale Avenue, and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Pacheco said.
