A man was shot and critically wounded inside a building in the Beverly neighborhood Wednesday afternoon, among seven people shot across Chicago into the evening, police said.
The man, 34, was shot in the 9900 block of South Walden Parkway about 12:30 p.m., said Police News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss.
The attacker fled the scene, Purkiss said. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, with multiple gunshot wounds, Purkiss said.
A description of the attacker was not available.
Later in the afternoon, a 30-year-old man was shot near 24th Street and Homan Avenue at 1:55 p.m., said News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines. The man was shot in both legs and was hospitalized in good condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.
About 4:15 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the hip in the 3000 block of South Lawndale Avenue, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. He left the scene before police were alerted, and walked into Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment.
Just before 6:50 p.m., a 19-year-old was shot three times in the 7000 block of South Merrill Avenue, police said. His condition had stabilized at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Police said the man sustained wounds to his left thigh, back and right arm while walking across a vacant lot. He saw the shooter raise a gun toward him and ran, but was unable to escape the gunfire.
About 7:20 p.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in the back in the 8300 block of South Wood Street, O'Brien said. The man's condition was stabilized at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, he said.
About an hour after the South Wood Street shooting, two 19-year-old men were shot in the 6400 block of South Stony Island Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood. One man was shot in the mouth and the other twice in the left arm, police said. The man shot in the arm was treated at the University of Chicago Hospital, but hospital information on the second man wasn't available.
Police said two people opened fire and one may be in custody. The shooting may have followed a fight inside Jackson Park, across the street from where the two were shot.
