Chicago rapper King Shark is in the market for backup dancers – more specifically, “twerkers” -- and his people have turned to Craigslist to help him find them.
The Craigslist ad was posted Saturday under the headline “Rap Tour Needs Twerkers…” and revealed that Shark is looking for backup dancers for his upcoming tour, “The Wild Tour.” The ad went on to say the tour will also feature a yet-to-be-announced artist who recently had the number one album in the country (Bruce Springsteen?) and will include light shows, fog machines, costumes and, not surprisingly, stripper poles.
So what exactly is Shark looking for in his twerkers?
“(W)e're hiring everyday party girls that look good and know how to twerk and juke,” according to the ad, which was posted by Kevin Giles, who said in an email he is Shark's manager. “The pay is $700 a show for the 20-show tour with a chance of a raise to $1000 a show depending on performance.”
I don’t know how exactly the raises will be determined. I’m assuming there is a formal performance review involving a supervisor which details the goals that were and were not met and discusses where there is room for improvement. Or something like that.
Giles said in an email that they are looking for eight dancers and will begin touring April 30. They will announce the other artist on the tour April 15. The Craigslist ad said Shark has opened for rappers Young Jeezy, Raekwon and Lil Durk, among others. Asked about Shark’s current label status, Giles said “King Shark is currently in a bidding war among labels but he is not officially signed.”
