And the anti-hero trend on television continues.

The new trailer for NBC’s “Chicago PD” – a spinoff for fellow Dick Wolf-produced series, “Chicago Fire,” now in its second season – shows protagonist and shady sergeant Hank Voight (played by Jason Beghe) instructing Detective Antonio Dawson (played by Jon Seda) to rough up a criminal.

“You have three minutes before this alley is full of uniforms,” Voight says while handing Dawson a knife. “Do what you got to do.”

“Chicago Fire” fans will remember Voight for his reoccuring role on the firefighter drama, where he harrassed Lieutenant Matthew Casey and was also arrested. Surprised he is a sergeant? You’re not alone.

“I cannot even conceive how you get charges dropped, released from jail and put in charge of a unit,” Deputy Chief Hammond tells Voight in the trailer.

“Chicago PD” -- which also features Sophia Bush ("One Tree Hill") -- premieres Jan. 8. Look for a crossover during the first season with “Law & Order: SVU” co-stars Ice-T and Kelli Giddish, who filmed their cameos in Chicago earlier this week.
