• A South Side family is mourning the loss of a man who was fatally shot overnight in a shooting that left his brother seriously injured in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side Wednesday night. The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 12000 block of South Normal Avenue, police said. Cortney Young, 36, died at the scene. His brother, 19, was taken to a hospital with several gunshot wounds to his legs. Read more

• A man was dragged more than 1,000 feet down Division Street by a hit-and-run driver in the Goose Island neighborhood this morning, police said. The man was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the Fire Department. Read more

• A small fire broke out this morning in a classroom at Wheaton North High School as a teacher was setting up a science experiment, officials said. No injuries were reported. The fire was reported in a science lab between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. before students began reporting for classes, according to Community School District 200 spokeswoman Erica Loiacono. Read more
