COT names Fogel board president
Chicago Opera Theater has appointed Henry Fogel, dean of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, as the company's board president, effective immediately. He succeeds Gregory O'Leary, who will remain a member of the executive committee.
A COT board member since 2009, Fogel was instrumental in bringing Andreas Mitisek on board as the opera's artistic director, an appointment that took effect last year.
Before becoming a dean at Roosevelt in 2009 (a position he will retain concurrent with his new duties at COT), Fogel served in two other high-profile positions. He was president and CEO of the League of American Orchestras from 2003 to 2008; and president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1985 to 2003.
Prior to coming to Chicago, he was executive director of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C.; and orchestra manager of the New York Philharmonic.
