Chicago Shakespeare Theater said Monday that it will be the only U.S. theater company among the 37 international companies invited to be part of the “Globe to Globe” festival for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
The project aims to present all of Shakespeare’s plays, each performed in a different language, over a period of six weeks. CST’s contribution with not be English (or even Chicago-ese) but “American hip-hop.” The Chicago-raised Q Brothers (“The Bomb-itty of Errors,” “Funk it Up About Nothing”) are to be commissioned to create the self-explanatory “Othello: The Remix.”
The show will open at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London on May 5; sometime thereafter, a Chicago production is anticipated.
