A 19-year-old man inside an SUV was killed this morning when the vehicle struck three light poles on South Damen Avenue in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood, authorities said.
The crash occurred shortly before 4:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of South Damen, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.
A male occupant who was found in the front passenger seat was dead on arrival, and two occupants were in good-to-fair condition but left without being transported to the hospital, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The Chevy Blazer was traveling north on Damen when it jumped a curb and struck three poles, Kubiak said.
The victim was identified as Alvaro Vanegas of the 3200 block of South Bell Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
