A Buffalo Grove man is accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl he met on a dating website.
Tal Vardy, of the 700 block of Thompson Boulevard, exchanged photos with the girl on the website before meeting on Feb. 19, Assistant State's Attorney Anthony Gattuso said in court Sunday.
Vardy is 19 years old, Gattuso said. The man's lawyer, who contended her client thought the girl was an adult, said Vardy is 18.
Vardy picked the girl up and drove to a parking lot off of Cicero Avenue and 155th Street in Oak Forest, where they had sex twice, prosecutors said. He also told the girl to turn off her cellphone because they didn't need her mother bothering them, Gattuso said.
Afterward, Vardy dropped off the girl near her house, prosecutors said. When she got home, she told her mother she had been sexually assaulted and they called police. The girl was taken to a hospital, where a rape kit was performed, prosecutors said.
DNA samples from the girl matched Vardy's DNA, according to test results that recently came back, Gattuso said. Vardy was arrested by Midlothian police and charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a victim younger than 13.
A judge set bail at $150,000 for Vardy on Sunday. Prosecutors did not name the dating website.
