Touring productions of the musicals "American Idiot," "Bring it On" and "Fela!" are the highlights of the spring 2012 season at Broadway in Chicago. They join the previously announced blockbuster, "The Book of Mormon."
The presenter said Thursday that its upcoming subscription slate will include the innovative Green Day musical "American Idiot," slated to play the Oriental Theatre for two weeks (Feb. 7-19). That will be followed by a reprise engagement of the Lincoln Center touring production of "South Pacific" (Feb. 14-26 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre). This production was previously seen at the Rosemont Theatre.
"Bring it On: The Musical," a new show about competitive cheerleading, will play March 6-25 at the Cadillac Palace Theatre. This show, penned by Jeff Whitty and featuring music by Lin-Manuel Miranda, is on an extended pre-Broadway tour.
"Fela!," the exciting show celebrating the Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti, will play the Oriental Theatre March 27 to April 8.
Various off-season reprises are also on the slate: "In the Heights" (Jan. 10-15 at the Oriental Theatre), "Mamma Mia" (Jan. 24-29 at the Oriental Theatre) "Riverdance" (March 13-18 at the Oriental Theatre) and, inevitably, "Cats" (May 1-6 at the Cadillac Palace). As previously announced, "Jersey Boys" will play a long reprise engagement at the Bank of America Theatre April 5 to June 2.
