A 71-year-old Northbrook man found in a car outside a north suburban motel died after being exposed to the cold, authorities said today.
Edwin Mason was found in a car outside a motel in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue in Glenview and was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:24 p.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
An autopsy Friday determined Mason, of the 0-100 block of Court of Hidden Bay in Northbrook, died of hypothermia and cold exposure, according to the medical examiner's office. Heart disease was listed as a secondary cause of his death, which was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner's office.
Mason is at least the sixth person whose death involved cold exposure this winter season.
