An Arlington Heights family returning from vacation made a shocking discovery: Their dog, Coco, was dead in the oven.
A woman and two children left for vacation July 2 while a neighbor was checking on the dog, a Cavachon, according to authorities.
The neighbor checked the home in the 1500 block of West Roanoke Drive on July 3, and the dog was fine, so police say the crime must happened at some point between then and the family’s return on July 4.
The dog was found in a convection oven by a family member and the home had been burglarized, police said.
Police are not saying whether the dog died before or after being placed in the appliance. The oven was not on when the family returned, said Sgt. Rick Kappelman.
About $3,000 in jewelry was stolen from the home, police said. There was no signs of forced entry and no one witnessed the incident.
