Actors' Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers, kicked off a series of 100th birthday parties with a bash Monday night at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago.
Held on the traditional "dark" night for shows, the event featured live performances by E. Faye Butler, singing a song about the glories of stage acting that Equity commissioned for the occasion, and Heidi Kettenring. Equity president Nick Wyman and executive director Mary McColl (whose contract was recently extended for another three years) extolled the virtues of the Chicago actor.
Equity held a lottery allowing many of its Central Region members to attend the event at no charge, joining producers, managing directors and many others typically on the other side of the bargaining table.
