"Girls Night: The Musical," an off-Broadway show that combines theatricality with a raucous party, is headed to Chicago and a bar on Division Street.
The New York producers Entertainment Events Inc. said Tuesday that their show will play the nightclub known as Detention Chicago, 9 W. Division St., from June 7 through Aug. 26. Shows take place Thursdays through Sundays. The show, penned by Louise Roche, has British origins. It follows five thirty- and forty-something women during a wild night at a karaoke bar, wherein they celebrate their achievements and drink away their heartaches.
The jukebox attraction features such retro classics as "It's Raining Men" and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." It is aimed at party-seeking women and, the producers say, "the bravest of men."
The show, which is non-union, will have a Chicago-based cast; auditions begin Apr. 3.
