Ten people were shot and three people died across the city Thursday night -- eight of them in a two-and-a-half hour window between about 4:10 p.m. and 6:35 p.m.
Police responding to a shots fired call found an 18-year-old man "unresponsive" in the 10600 block of South Champlain Avenue about 2:05 a.m. Friday with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. Someone reported hearing two "pops" but police didn't have any other information. The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Zachary Barrios, of the 9700 block of South Albany Avenue.
Two 20-year-old men were shot, one fatally, in the 1300 block of West 48th Street about 4:07 p.m., police said. Sergio Garcia, of the 4700 block of South Ada, died at John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital of Cook County after getting shot three times in the leg, authorities said. The other man was shot in the thigh and is in stable condition at Mount Sinai Hospital. They were standing on a sidewalk when someone in a passing dark van opened fire and police believe the shooting is gang related, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
In the 11300 block of South Wentworth Avenue, three people were shot at about 4:54 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti. A 19-year-old man was shot in the calf, a 34-year-old man was shot in the back and a 24-year-old man was shot in the thigh. The oldest was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition and the other two were taken to Roseland Hospital, Alfaro said. Someone approached the three on a bicycle and opened fire, Alfaro said. The three people who were shot were "uncooperative," police said.
At about 5:05 p.m. an 18-year-old man driving a car in the 4800 block of South Hamlin Avenue was shot in the back by someone that pulled alongside him, Alfaro said. The teen was initially taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead, police said. A spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Ricardo Alcantra, of the 5200 block of South Richmond Street.
A 15-year-old was shot near Ashland Avenue and 60th Street about 5:48 p.m., police said. He’s in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.
About 6:35 p.m., a 48-year-old woman was shot in the thigh in the 4400 block of West North Avenue. She was taken to St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital Center in stable condition, police said.
A male whose age wasn't available was shot in the 5600 block of West George Street about 7:45 p.m., Alfaro said. Additional details about that shooting weren't immediately available.
Police didn’t release any other infromation about the shootings, but said nobody was is in custody as of early Thursday evening.
