At least six people were injured by gunfire overnight, including three hurt in one South Austin shooting and a woman awakened by a bullet while she slept in the Englewood neighborhood, according to police.
About 3 a.m. in the West Side's South Austin neighborhood, a shooter emerged from a gangway and fired shots in the 100 block of North Laramie Avenue, police said.
A 22-year-old man standing in front of a house was struck in the buttocks and taken in serious condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.
Two men walking down the sidewalk were also struck. A 35-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the foot and was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, and a 15-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to both ankles and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. Both their conditions were stabilized.
About 2:30 a.m., a 52-year-old woman sleeping in her home in the 6400 block of South Normal Avenue was awakened by the sound of a gunshot, Estrada said.
The woman realized she had been shot in the upper arm and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where her condition was stabilized.
It appeared the bullet traveled through her wall from the outside and that she may not have been the intended target, police said.
In other overnight shootings:
• About 1:50 a.m. in the 7500 block of South Parnell Avenue, someone fired shots out of a vehicle as a 43-year-old woman told her children to come inside, police said. The woman sustained a graze wound to the arm and was treated on the scene. She refused further medical treatment, police said. The shooting happened in the Gresham neighborhood.
• About 12:10 a.m., a 30-year-old man was hurt in a drive-by shooting in the 6800 block of South Winchester Avenue. Someone in a Honda SUV opened fire as the man stood with friends, and as the man ran away, he realized he was struck. He was taken with a gunshot wound to the ankle to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. The shooting happened in the Englewood neighborhood.
No suspects are in custody as detectives investigate the four shootings.
