One man was killed and another wounded when a gunman opened fire on a car in the East Chatham neighborhood on the South Side this morning, police said.
The attack happened just before 9 a.m., near the intersection of 82nd Street and Maryland Avenue, according to police.
The man was in a black Chevy Impala when he was shot in the head, Mirabelli said. After the shooting, the car struck three other vehicles and came to rest near 82nd Street and Drexel Boulevard, police said.
The passenger was shot in the back, got out of the car and died at the scene.
He was identified as Anthony Williamson, 49, of the 8700 block of South Ashland Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Williamson was on parole in a 2010 cocaine possession case, but there was no word on what role his criminal background may have played in the shooting, if any.The driver was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital in critical condition. No one else was injured in the crash.
Neighbors say shootings in this area of east Chatham, unfortunately, happen frequently, enough that one of them didn’t think anything of the shots until she heard her parked car was one of those hit.
Chicago Police said they have a name of a suspect but have not yet located him.
