Top Rock Albums of 2013

1. Parquet Courts
Album: "Light Up Gold" (What's Your Rupture)
How to make insistent guitar-bass-drums rock sound so off-the-cuff? The New York-via-Texas quartet reinvigorates that approach on its excellent second album. The wickedly funny yet pointed and often poetic lyrics nail the limbo between youth and adulthood. Walls of indifference are everywhere, but the deceptively casual, deadpan narrators hang tough and their charging rhythm section breaks through.
