Police have questioned a 42-year-old woman who was driving the wrong way on Lake Shore Drive Friday evening and caused a 4-vehicle crash that left several injured.
About 11:30 p.m., the Chicago woman was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla southbound on the northbound lanes on the 3800 block of Lake Shore Drive near Waveland Avenue, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The Corolla struck a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta driven by a 22-year-old woman, he said. The Corolla then continued and struck a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta being driven by a 46-year-old man. A 43-year-old woman was a passenger in that car, Mirabelli said.
After trying to avoid the collision, the second Jetta hit a 1997 Ford Contour which may have been parked on the side of the road, Mirabelli said.
The driver of the Corolla was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the 22-year-old driver of the 2002 Jetta was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The people in the 2013 Jetta were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital where their conditions had stabilized, Mirabelli said.
Police could not immediately say how long the woman in the Corolla was driving on Lake Shore Drive before the accidents.
No citations have been issued, as police are trying to determine the cause of the accident.
