One person was killed when their vehicle flipped over and caught fire. The SUV landed on its roof in the front yard of the home.

A husband and wife from Darien died early this morning after their Jeep Cherokee struck a tree and caught fire in Westmont, police said.

Sgt. Stephen Thompson of the Westmont Police Department said police responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 500 block of West 59th Street at 3:20 a.m. and found the vehicle engulfed in flames.

Richard Klima, 60, and Arlene Klima, 71, died at the scene, Thompson said.

Richard Klima was driving.  Police believe their Jeep might have rolled over before hitting the tree, Thompson said.

“We aren’t sure why they (the couple) were out and where they were going,” Thompson said. “We are still investigating the incident.”
