A teenage couple have been charged in connection with their 5-month-old son's beating death, according to police.

Victor Javier Salinas-Corona, 17, is being held in lieu of $2 million bail after being charged Thursday with murder in the beating death of his son, according to police and jail records. His girlfriend, Aurora Escamilla, 19, has been released in lieu of $100,000 bail after being charged with endangering the life of a child, according to jail records.

The couple's infant, whose name was not available Sunday, was found at a home in the 2600 block of Horeb Avenue just before 4 a.m. on Thursday after someone called 911 because the boy was not breathing, according to a release from Zion police.

The boy was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where he was declared dead after emergency workers were unable to revive him, according to police. An autopsy by the Lake County coroner's office determined the boy died from blunt trauma to the head, according to police.

Investigators interviewed family members, including the dead boy's parents, who were charged later Thursday, police said.

Police provided no details about what might have led to the slaying.
