A Chicago man is being held on $1 million bond after being charged with trying to have sex with a 12-year-old girl, authorities said.

Charles F. Bocock, 35, was arrested Monday afternoon at a Dunkin’ Donuts in the 13300 block of Illinois Route 59 in Plainfield when he tried to meet what he thought was the girl, according to a release from the Will County state’s attorney’s office.

Although prosecutors did not make clear why, about three weeks ago a Plainfield resident who had advertised on Craigslist.com seeking help in making his car payment got in touch with police after Bocock contacted him about the ad.

The Will County state’s attorney’s High Technology Crimes Unit took over the investigation and pretended to be the Plainfield man, and eventually Bocock arranged the meeting, prosecutor said.

On Tuesday, Bocock, of the 4100 block of North Tripp Avenue, was ordered held in lieu of bond. He is charged with indecent solicitation of a child, with the intent of commiting predatory criminal sexual assault, traveling to meet a minor and unlawful grooming.

Bocock, who is a British citizen but has permanent U.S. residency, is due back in court July 2, according to prosecutors and jail records.
