A woman was killed when an inbound Metra train hit her late this morning near Round Lake, according to the transit agency.
Milwaukee District North Line Train No. 2610 left the Fox Lake station at 11:45 a.m. and hit a pedestrian at Fairfield Road and Illinois 134 near the Round Lake station, which is three stops south of Fox Lake, Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said.
The woman was pronounced dead after the accident, Gillis said.
The train involved was carrying 15 people and was scheduled to arrive at Union Station at 1:10 p.m. but was halted for an hour and a half at the scene, said Gillis.
Outbound train 2603 and 2612, the next inbound train, were also affected, Gillis said.
