A Waukegan man is charged with sexually assaulting a 5-year-old at his wife’s home day care, authorities said.
After the child cried out about the alleged assault, police arrested Mario Montes-Deoca, 60, last week and he was charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, authorities said. A judge set his bond at $100,000 and he was released after posting the required 10 percent of that amount, said Cynthia Vargas, spokeswoman for the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Montes-Deoca lives in the home that houses the day care in the 1000 block on Montesano Avenue in Waukegan, authorities said. The day care is licensed by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, and the agency is investigating, said spokeswoman Veronica Resa.
The child — whose sex authorities declined to specify — complained of the alleged attack to his or her mother while she was bathing the child July 10, Vargas said. The mother took the child to the doctor and then the child was interviewed at the Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center.
Under questioning by Waukegan police, Montes-Deoca admitted the assault, Vargas said. His wife has run the day care for some 15 years, Vargas said, and the child had been attending for about three weeks.
No one answered the phone at the day care’s listed number Tuesday.
The investigation continues, Vargas said.
“We want to let the public know that if there have been any other victims, they need to contact the police department or the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office,” she said.
