A hospital security guard is accused of taking hundreds of dollars from a safe containing patients’ cash, Cook County prosecutors said.
The guard was caught on videotape removing $700 from the safe, where patient valuables were kept at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, Assistant State’s Attorney Katherine Levine.
The suspect, Oronzo N. Mazzoccoli, 31, of the 1400 block of Illinois Street in Schaumburg, appeared in court in Rolling Meadows today, where his bond was set at $10,000.
Two previous thefts -- one of $312 and one of $400 -- led hospital authorities to install a video surveillance camera at the safe’s location in the security office, authorities said, adding Mazzoccoli has been fired from the hospital. He was taken into custody Wednesday, officials said.
