A fight broke out on a transport bus taking prisoners to Cook County Jail from court appearances at the Markham Courthouse this afternoon, officials said.
The fight involed about 10 of the inmates who happened to be on the bus said Ben Breit, a spokesman for the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
There were a total of 52 inmates on the bus when the fight broke out at about 5:30 p.m., Breit said.
No one was seriously injured and one inmate sustained "very minor injuries" said Breit. No sheriff's officials on the bus were injured.
The fight required the bus to pull over on the shoulder of the Dan Ryan Expressway as police were called to escort the bus to Cook County Jail, said Breit.
The incident is being investigated. Breit could not immediately say if anyone would be charged.
The bus eventually made it back to the jail where all of the the inmates on the bus were taken to their respective divisions, Breit said.
