Felon held on 100K in South Side shooting

Abdulai Habib (Chicago Police Dept.)

A 23-year-old man who was on probation for a fraud conviction was denied bail today for a Friday shooting on the South Side.

Abdulai Habib of the 1500 block of East 61st Street was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a weapon by a felon, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said Habib, who was on probation for a fraud conviction, shot an acquaintance about 9 p.m. Friday on the same block where he lives.

When police went to arrest Habib at his home, they found a 25-caliber semi-automatic handgun as well as fraudulent material and phony identification cards in his home, prosecutors said.

His next court date was scheduled for Oct. 16.
