A robbery and shooting at a dry cleaners in the Park Manor neighborhood is one of at least two robberies carried out by the same group of men in the Grand Crossing Police District in the past week, police said today.

The robbery of the Elegant Cleaners, 219 E. 69thSt., about 12:30 p.m. Monday resulted in a 72-year-old man being shot in the leg, according to police. Today, Area Central detectives released an alert, warning businesses about two or three men who have robbed the cleaners and, about 11:10 a.m. last Wednesday, another small business in the 100 block of East 69 th Street.

In both incidents, men entered the businesses, showed a silver handgun and demanded money or property, according to the alert.  The earlier robbery involved three men, and although initial reports indicated Monday’s robbery also may have involved three men, police said today that only two were involved.

Police did not have a detailed description of the robbers that included any clothing description beyond that the robbers have worn masks. They are believed to be between the ages of 18 and 29.

Area Central detectives are asking that anyone with any information about the robbers call detectives at 312-747-8380.
