A woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver who was later arrested after police traced his license plate number, authorities said.

Ida Quintanilla, 58, was hit by a dark SUV around 8:40 p.m. Thursday in the 4500 block of South Archer Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

Quintanilla, of the 2600 block of West Montgomery Avenue, was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital about 9:20 p.m.

Police arrested a man after tracking down the SUV through a license plate number provided by a witness.

An autopsy determined Quintanilla died of multiple injuries from being struck by the SUV in an accident, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
