Bail was set at $500,000 today for a South Side man charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery, accused of stabbing another man multiple times during a domestic dispute in Jackson Park earlier this month.
Bail was set for Ronald Smith, 49, of the 7200 block of South Prairie Avenue in Cook County bond court.
According to charges read in court by an assistant state's attorney Saturday, Smith had been in an on-and-off sexual relationship with the 38-year-old man. The relationship ended April 26, but the two men met again on May 1 in Jackson Park and got into an argument.
The man attempted to leave the park on his bicycle, the state's attorney said, but Smith chased the man and used a knife to stab him in the abdomen and the elbow.
Smith lacerated the man's liver and the victim required 44 staples in his abdomen. He was held in the hospital for three days, the prosecutor said.
According to the defense attorney representing Smith, his wife was present in the courtroom.
Smith's new court date is May 17.
