A dozen people were displaced following a fire in the South Deering neighborhood this evening, according to fire officials.
Firefighters were called to a building in the 10000 block of South Commercial Avenue a little before 7 p.m. and found a one-story restaurant between two two-story buildings on fire, according to the Chicago Fire Department’s news office.
The fire in the basement and walls of the restaurant was extinguished quickly, but damage was extensive enough that four adults and eight children were displaced by the fire, according to the fire department.
No one was injured in the fire and its cause was under investigation.
The Chicago Red Cross, which brought a warming bus to the scene because of the cold temperatures, said it is assisting the displaced people.
