AMC released Saturday a new trailer for its Revolutionary War spy drama, "Turn," and announced the series will premiere at 8 p.m. Sunday, April 6.
Don’t let the period costumes fool you into thinking this is a quaint tale: The riveting 90-minute premiere sucks you into the story of America's first spy ring. I'm already hooked on this suspenseful thriller.
It's not surprising, considering the man behind the show knows a thing or two about spy stories. Craig Silverstein, who was in charge of The CW's "Nikita," developed and writes "Turn.'
Based on new research featured in Alexander Rose's book "Washington's Spies," "Turn" stars Jamie Bell as Abe Woodhull, a farmer living behind enemy lines in British-occupied Long Island. Woodhull is reluctant to fight against British rule, but can’t help defend his neighbors who are being mistreated.
Eventually he is recruited by a group of childhood friends to form the Culper Ring, an unlikely team of secret agents who help turn the tide of the war in favor of the rebels. "Their daring efforts also revolutionized the art of espionage, giving birth to modern tradecraft as we know it today, along with all of the moral complexity that entails," AMC says.
Joining Bell ("Billy Elliot") in the cast are Seth Numrich ("The Good Wife") as Ben Talmadge, Daniel Henshall ("The Snowtown Murders") as Caleb, Heather Lind ("Boardwalk Empire") as Anna Strong, Meegan Warner as Mary Woodhull, Kevin McNally ("Pirates of the Caribbean: On StrangerTides") as Judge Richard Woodhull, Burn Gorman ("Torchwood," "The Dark Knight Rises") as Major Hewlett, Angus MacFadyen ("Braveheart") as Robert Rogers, JJ Feild ("Captain America: The First Avenger") as Major John Andre and Samuel Roukin ("Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1") as Captain Simcoe.
Silverstein also serves as series showrunner. Rupert Wyatt ("Rise of the Planet of the Apes") directed the premiere. Barry Josephson ("Bones") from Josephson Entertainment is executive producer. Want more? Discuss this article and others on Show Patrol's Facebook page.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
