Showtime won't be giving us a real finale for "The Borgias," but show creator Neil Jordan has released an e-book equivalent, Showtime announced Tuesday.
"The Borgia Apocalypse: The Screenplay," now available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and SmashWords and other e-retailers, is based on Jordan's script for the two-hour finale of the canceled series about Pope Alexander VI and his family.
"The Borgias" ended its three-season run on June 16, and Showtime had intended to do the 2-hour series finale. Showtime entertainment president David Nevins said last month at the Television Critics Association press tour that the plan had been terminated.
I'd prefer to see the stars, including Jeremy Irons, Francois Arnaud, Holliday Grainger, Gina McKee, Joanne Whalley, Lotte Verbeek, Sean Harris, Thure Lindhardt, Peter Sullivan, Julian Bleach and Colm Feore, acting out the words in that script. But I guess fans will have to settle for the e-book.
[UPDATE] I've heard from some fans who say they won't settle. Melanie Origner posted in the comments here, and Cassie Decker and Share Coughlin on my Facebook page that there is a Save The Borgias Fan Campaign website where you can get more information.
The Borgia clan, one of history's most infamous families, had a second good run while it lasted.
