'Strike Back' Episode 3 preview with Liam Cunningham

If you're a fan of high-octane adventure and Jason Bourne-style thrills, you need to get Cinemax to check out "Strike Back." It's pure escapist fun. As I wrote in my review of the series premiere, the show tends to take unneeded advantage of its pay cable home, throwing in the occasional sex scene that offers nothing to the plots. But I can forgive that when stars Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester are the guys dropping trou'. But the series revels in all the action and spy drama. In the third episode, airing at 9 p.m. Aug. 26 (apparently producers Andy Harries, Elaine Pyke and co-executive producers Dan Percival, Frank Spotnitz don't title the eps), the British intelligence team Section 20 continues to hunt the terrorist Latif by following some of his contacts in South Africa. I won't get into the specifics of the episode--much more fun for you to experience that for yourself--but the intense Liam Cunningham guest stars as the vicious mercenary Daniel Connolly, a former IRA member with whom Col. Grant (Amanda Mealing) has had plenty of run-ins. Cunningham quietly commands the screen (except for when he shooting people or blowing things up), and Stapleton, as Section 20 bad boy Damien Scott, thoroughly entertains. "Strike Back" is far from perfect, but it's a lot of fun. Photo No. 15 in the gallery is spoilery, so be warned! Watch a sneak peek video here. Curt Wagner, RedEye's Show Patrol
