'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' preview: Darth Sidious steps in

Is Darth Maul getting too big for his britches--er, mechanical leg warmers--in the next episode of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars?"

In "The Lawless," airing at 8:30 a.m. CT Feb. 2 on Cartoon Network, Maul declares himself the true Sith Lord, a claim that will not go unanswered. As you can see in the clip above, Maul's master, Darth Sidious, shows up in the flesh to show Maul who is the true boss.

The red guy also uses Duchess Satine as bait in a nefarious plot to trap Obi-Wan Kenobi--yes, he's after Obi-Wan again. Never one to ignore a damsel in distress, Obi-Wan falls for it and attempts to rescue Satine, as you can see in the sneak peak below.

Here's some trivia about "The Lawless" from Lucasfilm:

  • This episode marks the first appearance of Darth Sidious as anything but a hologram.
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi is wearing his Rako Hardeen disguise (from Season 4's "Deception" arc) when he arrives on Mandalore.
  • The much battered Twilight now sports a cartoonish illustration of Anakin as a boy Podracer pilot, with Aurebesh text that says "WIZARD!!!" The Twilight has not been seen since Season 2's "Children of the Force."

Lucasfilm says that the episode will change the show forever and plans to mark the occasion with The Clone Wars Google Hangout--the first ever official Star Wars Google Hangout- taking place 12:30 p.m. CT Saturday and featuring "Clone Wars" supervising director Dave Filoni and voice talent Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker), Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano) and Sam Witwer (Darth Maul). Fans can ask questions and get an exclusive first look at next week's installment of "The Clone Wars," titled "Sabotage," along with other surprises.

Fans with Google+ profiles can RSVP for the event now; hashtag #CloneWarsHangout will be used to ask questions and interact live during the Hangout. Lucasfilm's own Pablo Hidalgo and hollywood.com's Christian Blauvelt will moderate the discussion, and a live stream of the event will be open to everyone at youtube.com/starwars.PAST SWCW EPS

'Magic Mike XXL' is the summer's best sequel so far

2012’s “Magic Mike” and its sequel, “Magic Mike XXL,” could have been so stupid, and I’m sure those who haven’t seen either one assume that they are. I mean, think of how cheesy a movie about male strippers could be. Based on the commercials, they barely seem like movies at all—just two-hour thrust-athons...

Vince Staples' sprawling double album 'Summertime '06' is relentlessly gritty

Vince Staples deals in pessimism, for good reason. The Long Beach rapper has seen a lot of violence and despair in his 21 years. He'll tell you about it too, in unflinching clarity that few artists his age possess. There’s little if any hope in his music. Yet even with the darkness oozing out of...
