You know you wanted it. Now you can help name it. Syfy has announced that it will once again team with The Asylum to unleash a "Sharknado" sequel onto the world.
The new film is set to premiere in 2014, the network announced Wednesday.
Because the July 11 broadcast of "Sharknado" caused such a social media frenzy, Syfy also announced a Twitter contest to give "Sharknado 2" with an appropriate subtitle. Fans can tweet their subtitle suggestions to @SyfyMovies using #Sharknado. Syfy will select the best submission as the subtitle for "Sharknado 2."
Here's a piece of info that might help with your subtitle: The new storm will throw flying sharks on the citizens of New York City.
"Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm--on television," said Thomas Vitale, executive vice president, programming and original movies at Syfy. "The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that 'Sharknado 2' will be lots of fun. We'll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn't want our fans to worry they wouldn't get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year."
Syfy will rear the original "Sharknado" at 6 p.m. CT Thursday. In it, regulars of a beachside bar including owner Fin (Ian Ziering), bartender Nova (Cassie Scerbo) and local drunk George (John Heard) team up with Fin’s ex-wife April (Tara Reid) and their kids to put down the sharks falling from the skies during a freak hurricane/tornado storm over Los Angeles.
