The cast and crew of Showtime's "Shameless" are back in Chicago this week, filming scenes for the upcoming second season of the hit drama.
The weather's being a lot more cooperative this time around. Emmy Rossum, who plays Fiona Gallagher, reminded me during San Diego Comic-Con what it was like for the gang back in February.
"We had Snowmageddon last time," she said, referring to Chicago big blizzard. The cast "hunkered down" at the home of Emmy-nominated co-star Joan Cusack, who lives in the Chicago area.
Rossum said the August shoot, this week's, would involve swimming instead of snowball fights. "I think we'll survive," she said.
The production films most of its Chicago scenes in the Lawndale and Bronzeville neighborhoods. But Tuesday morning Rossum tweeted that they shot at North Avenue Beach: "Just shot sunrise at north avenue beach in chicago. It was stunning and I played in the water between takes. It was so warm!"
The production will return in the fall to shoot more scenes here, a trip that Rossum seems to always look forward to making. "I just like the energy, of the city, of the people," she said.
"Shameless" tells the story of the Gallagher family, whose six kids, including Fiona, are left to fend for themselves because their father (played by William H. Macy) is a drunken fool.
The will begin its second season at 8 p.m. Jan. 8 on Showtime.
