'Restless' Part 2 sneak peek with SAG nominee Charlotte Rampling

In Sundance Channel's intriguing miniseries "Restless," Charlotte Rampling stars as a former British spy in World War II who has been living under an assumed name for 30 years.

When Sally Gilmartin tells her daughter, Ruth (Michelle Dockery), about her past and that her real name is Eva Delectorskaya, it sets off doubts in Ruth's mind that she knows her mother at all.

And, as you can see in this clip from Part 2 of the miniseries, Sally begins to run her daughter as if she were a spy in order to secure the safety of both women.

Rampling gives Sally/Eva the manipulative skills and iciness that a spy on the run for 30 years would have. Under that steely surface, however, you see the love Sally feels for her family and just a trace of the pain she still carries after a betrayal from long ago.

It's a marvelous performance, and one for which Rampling deservedly received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination on Wednesday. It is her first SAG nomination in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries.

If you ask me, Hayley Atwell also should have been nominated for playing the young Eva/Sally. We'll see what happens at next year's Emmy awards.

"Restless" concludes at 8 p.m. Dec. 14 on Sundance Channel. Check out my review and photo/video gallery here. Visit the Sundance website for more.
