You probably know Katey Sagal as the tough-as-nails Gemma Teller Morrow on "Sons of Anarchy," but did you know she's also a helluva singer?
The multi-talented star is bringing her tour, "Katey Sagal: An Evening of Music and the Cast of Sons of Anarchy," to Chicago, playing at 7:30 p.m. April 21 at The Vic Theater, 145 N. Sheffield Ave. Tickets are $39-$250 through Jam Productions.
Sagal, who plays Gemma in the FX series created by her husband, Kurt Sutter, sang backup for Bob Dylan, Better Midler and Etta James back in the day, and has never stopped performing, music, which she says is still her true passion.
"I am particularly excited because I have all new material that I have yet to play live," Sagal said in a press release. "I also love being a part of 'Sons of Anarchy,' so I'd say I am generally excited."
The touring show also will include a moderated panel conversation with Sagal and cast members Theo Rossi (Juice) and Ryan Hurst (Opie). Filming on the sixth season of "SOA" begins in mid-May.
For the tour, Sagal will be backed by the Forest Rangers, the band that collaborates with "SOA" music supervisor Bob Thiele Jr. and Sutter to create the show's music. Thiele will act as band leader and play guitar. Other band members are Brian Macleod (drums), Davey Faragher (bass), Jeff Young (keys), Billy Harvey (guitar) and Gia Ciambotti (backing vocals).
The live show will not only feature several songs from "SOA" that Sagal sings along with her personal favorites, including a few songs from a forthcoming album out later this year.
"In between acting gigs, I always have a band and play whenever I can," she said. "I make another record it seems like every 10 years, and this is my third solo release."
