Warner Bros. Television already announced that former "Southland" and "The O.C." star Ben McKenzie will play a young Det. Jim Gordon. Now it has announced four other regular cast members who will populate Gotham City.
Taylor ("Another Earth," "The Walking Dead") will play Oswald Cobblepot, a low-level psychopath who works for gangster Fish Mooney. The man who will become The Penguin hides his sadistic lust for power behind an exquisitely polite demeanor. A Warner Bros. release says he has the brains of a chess grandmaster and the morals of a jackal.
Zabryna Guevara ("Burn Notice," "3 lbs.") will star as Captain Essen, Gordon's boss at the GCPD Homicide Squad. Captain Essen, says Warner Bors., balances the worlds of police and politics with a Machiavellian skill that's as much corporate litigator as cop.
Sean Pertwee ("Camelot," "Devil's Playground") will play Alfred Pennyworth, a tough ex-marine from East London who has loyally served the wealthy Wayne family of Gotham City. After the tragic deaths of Bruce Wayne's parents, he's fiercely protective of his young charge.
Erin Richards ("Breaking In," "Being Human," "Merlin") will star as Barbara Kean, an emergency room doctor and Jim Gordon's fiance. Loyal Barbara stands by her future husband, a difficult task in a world as corrupt as Gotham City.
"Gotham" is based on characters published by DC Comics. Bruno Heller, the man behind CBS' "The Mentalist" and HBO's "Rome," wrote the pilot script and will serve as executive producer. Danny Cannon, who has worked on CW's "Nikita" and CBS' "CSI" series, will direct and executive produce the pilot.
