HBO preps for 'Great War' in new 'Game of Thrones' teaser

The new "Game of Thrones" teaser leaves fans with burning questions--and not much else.

A mysterious woman speaks the ominous lines, "The Great War is between death and life, ice and fire. If we lose, the night will never end."

Who is she? The voice doesn't sound familiar, so maybe it belongs to one of the new cast members announced this summer. After making inquiries at HBO, however, I doubt she is a character who has been introduced just yet. The HBO folks told me it's "more fun to keep the mystery going."

The 15-second teaser aired before Sunday's episode of "Boardwalk Empire." Like the teaser poster from last week, it's heavy on the imagery of the number 3 to remind us that Season 3 will premiere March 31, 2013, on HBO--but most of us already knew that. The initials GOT, with three swords in the "O," morph into the date 03/31/13. It's cool, but such a, well, a tease!

Is the Great War with the army of White Walkers that were prepping to cross over the Wall into the Seven Kingdoms at the end of last season? Or is it the war for the Iron Throne? Can the Seven Kingdoms put aside their differences to battle what is presumably the "ice" beyond the Wall?

Who wants to know more about Season 3?

2012’s “Magic Mike” and its sequel, “Magic Mike XXL,” could have been so stupid, and I’m sure those who haven’t seen either one assume that they are. I mean, think of how cheesy a movie about male strippers could be. Based on the commercials, they barely seem like movies at all—just two-hour thrust-athons...

Vince Staples' sprawling double album 'Summertime '06' is relentlessly gritty

Vince Staples deals in pessimism, for good reason. The Long Beach rapper has seen a lot of violence and despair in his 21 years. He'll tell you about it too, in unflinching clarity that few artists his age possess. There’s little if any hope in his music. Yet even with the darkness oozing out of...
