Chicago’s going to get a bit of Portland in January. “Portlandia,” actually, so get ready to meet Toni and Candice, the hilarious proprieters of the feminist bookstore “Women and Women First.”
Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, stars and creators of IFC’s sketch comedy series, kick off a six-city tour in December that will bring them to The Hideout Jan. 18. Tickets ($20-$30) go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday. For information, go to hideoutchicago.com.
“Portlandia: The Tour” features Armisen and Brownstein performing live music and sharing personal anecdotes about the creation and inspiration of “Portlandia” and its eccentric characters, a press release said. The duo also will present clips of the second season, although they may not do that in Chicago; the second season begins at 9 p.m. Jan. 6.
Season 2 of the series promises even more fun characters like Toni and Candice. According the release, Armisen and Brownstein will unleash “Doug and Claire, a couple whose lives spin out of control when they run out of new episodes of their favorite TV show; Gil and Merrill, a two-piece band in search of a gimmick; and Malcolm and Kris, overprotective parents who hover over their kid.”
Guest stars for the new season include Penny Marshall, Jack McBrayer, Tim Robbins, Andy Samberg, Amber Tamblyn and Kristen Wiig as well as musicians Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Annie Clark of St. Vincent, Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse, Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols, Johnny Marr of The Smiths and Joanna Newsom.
You think they will be as awesome as Kyle MacLachlan’s bass playing Mayor?
