'Fashion Star' looking for designers in Chicago, other cities


Chicago fashion designers have a chance to impress producers from NBC's "Fashion Star" with their creations during a July 22 casting call at Macy's.

"Fashion Star" is looking for 12 innovative designers for its second season. The show's ultimate winner secures a multi-million dollar contract to launch his or her own collections in three of America's largest retailers.

When: Noon-5 p.m. Sunday, July 22
Where: Macy's, 111 N. State St.

Designer are asked to bring five to 10 pieces of ready-to-wear, original garments they designed to show the casting team and fashion industry buyers and executives. You must also bring:

  • Your most current look-book and/or portfolio if you have one.
  • A completed and signed Open Call Application, which you can download at the Fashion Star site.
  • A photocopy of your driver's license or government issued photo ID.
  • A current photograph of yourself.

All photos and applications submitted will not be returned and become property of Fashion Star Producers.

In its premiere season, winner Kara Laricks wowed mentors Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos and won more than $6 million in collection deals with Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue and H&M. Her clothes are currently on sale at those retailers.
