The Coen brothers serve as executive producers, but the story and characters are completely different from the film. Billy Bob Thornton plays drifter Lorne Malvo in the 10-episode series. Thornton is joined by Colin Hanks, who plays police deputy Gus Grimly, and Martin Freeman (Dr. Watson in "Sherlock"), who stars as insurance agent Lester Nygaard, a character inspired by the one William H. Macy played in the movie.
